Your chimney is a dark, cramped space. Because of this, it is difficult to see the condition of the inside of it. Sometimes, there are even difficult places to reach during a chimney inspection, but the technicians at Northeastern Masonry & Chimney use a video scanner to get a better look. Although we don’t usually use video scans for routine inspections, the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) requires a video scan for all Level 2 or 3 inspection.

Level 2 and 3 inspections usually occur when there have been changes made to your chimney system. This include events such as relining the flue, fuel changes, or removal of chimney components like the crown or interior chimney wall. You also need video scans when there might be an issue with your chimney, as this allows our technicians to take a closer look at your system. At Northeastern Masonry & Chimney, we pride ourselves on giving thorough chimney inspections. Video scan inspections help us in our mission to provide the best customer service.

How does video scanning work?

sweep at workVideo scanning is done remotely by a chimney technician. It works by feeding a scope with an attached camera and light through your chimney. A technician then use the camera to scan the inside of your chimney. A remote control is used to move the camera around on the inside of your chimney, closely examining points of interest. While the camera is taking video, the technician also uses a small screen to look at a live feed of what is being scanned. This allows the technician to get a closer look at the inside of your chimney and assess its health.

How do video scans benefit you?

At Northeastern Masonry & Chimney, video scanning allows our technicians to quickly and accurately diagnose issues with your chimney. This is important for a couple of reasons.
